The Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in the Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Countries

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Ambassador Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, participated on Thursday in the meeting of Foreign Ministers to pave the way for the 15th Round of the Islamic Summit which is hosted by the capital of Gambia, Banjul, and the ministerial level meeting lasted between 2 -3 May, under the motto (Strengthening unity and solidarity, through dialogue marked by sustainable development).

Ambassador Ahmed Macallin Fiqi is leading the Somali delegation participating in the meeting which was held yesterday Thursday and today Friday, and discussed the report and the message that will come out of the summit and will be agreed by the leaders and heads of the member states. of the Union.

The summit, which is expected to open on Saturday, will discuss political issues affecting the Islamic world, especially the issue of Palestine.

Leaders of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will give priority to economic, humanitarian, social and cultural issues, especially issues related to youth, women, family, science, technology, information and Muslim communities.

The agenda of the meeting will also address the rejection of hate speech, Islamophobia, promotion of dialogue as well as the issues of climate change and food security.

The summit will be closed with a press release summarizing the Union’s position on the issues discussed in the conference, including a clear support for the unity and nationalism of Somalia, and efforts against terrorism.

The statement strongly condemns another move that violates Somalia’s land, sea and air sovereignty, such as the illegal agreement between Ethiopia and the northwestern region of Somalia known as “Somaliland”.

The statement also emphasizes the importance of material and technical support to the Federal Government of Somalia and the prevention of challenges, first of all the drought which is a serious threat to food security in Somalia.

The statement was supported by Somalia’s candidate, Mrs. Fawsiyo Yusuf Haji Adam, for the post of Chairperson of the African Union, for the term of office (2025-2028). The communiqué also mentioned articles on the issue of Palestine, the Holy City of Jerusalem and the Banjul Declaration.
