A popular TikTok girl from Iraq, named Om Fahad, was shot dead in an attack outside her home. Zayouna district is in the eastern city of Baghdad.
Footage taken by security cameras shows a lone gunman, wearing black clothes and a helmet, getting off a motorcycle, walking towards the car where the TikTok was in, and then shooting Om Fahad.
The Ministry of the Interior said that it had prepared a team to investigate the manner of the murder. Om Fahad, whose real name is Ghufran Sawadi, is popular on TikTok, with nearly half a million followers sharing videos of herself dancing to music.
In February 2023, she was sentenced to six months in prison by a court that determined her videos were indecent and offensive to modesty and public decency, with some of her videos reaching over a million views.
Five other people who use the Internet were also sentenced to two years in prison, and investigations were launched against others accused of misconduct after the Iraqi Ministry of Interior appointed a committee to remove the moral and religious content displayed online.
However, Fahad’s murder is believed to be behind mobs who were angry about her dancing videos and unpopular behavior.
